There is an interlock on the shredder that prevents it from operating unless it's sitting on the shredded paper receptacle - usually a switch in a slot on the head that is closed by a tab on the receptacle. If the bag doesn't interfere with that interlock, it should work. A very thin bag, or a bag cut out specifically to not interfere with the interlock, will likely work.

I had a problem using a bag. The instructions say using a bag may result in the machine not working. I removed the bag, and the machine began working again.

yes, the shredder piece just lifts off of the trashcan below, so you could easily put a bag in the receptacle before placing the shredder on top

I cant imagine why you couldnt. Not sure that there is a bag designed specifically to fit it but Im sure you could make something work without a real problem

i always line my can with a bag to catch the shredded paper and make discarding it easier

yes, you can use a bag in the waste basket. I have been use a waste bag and have not had a problem with it.

You can use a bag. I just line the can with grocery bags. Once filled, into the recycle it goes.
