They're made out of a flexible plastic. The pieces interlock, and they're fairly sturdy for the price.

It comes with rope ties and pegs to secure it to grass. You need them to stabilize the rods that hold the net. Don't think you could make it work on hard surface like concrete with some sort of weights.
