I don't. Our daughter is almost 3 and she just climbs on it to sit down in seat. Hasn't hurt it any.

Some have an exception that a thin blanket or protector mat can be used so long as it passes the snuggness test even after the mat has been removed. That makes this a no go for every American approved car seat I can think of and I install 400+ car seats a year as a tech. Great idea, but needs to team up with a seat manufacture to get it endorsed and tested WITH the specific seats.
