It is impossible to establish a balanced connection from a computer directly to any speaker unless the computer has a sound card installed with balanced outputs. A balanced connection typically requires an external dedicated audio interface that has balanced outputs.

If you use 1/8” to XLR or any converter cable to make the connection from the computer it is still an unbalanced connection. Audio interface is required see less

It is easy to switch the speakers off when you need to do some vocal or instrumental recording and do not want bleed from the accompaniment tracks or feedback.

These speakers are a real value with performance and features that beyond what any other $100 speakers might have. For my ears these are the best near field monitors in the $100 price range. There is a comparison channel (Digital Stereophony) on YouTube that does A-B comparisons of various studio monitors. They have several comparisons with the Eris 3.5. Just make sure you listen to the comparisons with a good set of speakers or headphones and see what your ears tell you.. see less

Answer:
Happy holidays, I'm sorry but the PreSonus Eris 4.5 doesn't have Toslink which is Adat Light Pipe, digital single.
It has 1/4" TRS or RCA stereo inputs. Neither of the PreSonus Eris E8, E5, E4.5 or E3.5 have digital input/ Toslink.

ABR-MusicVideo is an authorized PreSonus dealer. We are also a Fostex dealer and there are some Fostex speakers
that have digital inputs and they are powered speakers.

Answer:
The are active stereo speakers. May use the amped speaker as a centre speaker, if your amp has a line out i guess. But please, do your research. That you want to use this as a centre speaker suggests you are slightly confused.
