I had a keyboard that would not pair in the past. It was due to a hardware failure. The code was carefully entered, but it kept saying passkey is wrong. So I got another one shipped and it worked. Apple was nice enough to replace the keyboard even though I purchased it somewhere else. No guarantee they will do that… see more I had a keyboard that would not pair in the past. It can pair with a PC, but some keys don't map correctly.

The port on the keyboard is a light port (identical to the iPhone). The cable that comes with it has a usb 2.0 type A on the other end, but you can use any cable with a lightning on one end and usb-c, a, or thunderbolt on the other.
