No they are stitched on but you also have the straps. it is a nice feature and comfortable. i just use one backpack strap over my shoulder. i don’t wear it as a backpack but i am only walking a short distance into the office.

I carry my 1/2" work binder, gym clothes and towel, lunch (without my lunch bag because my gym stuff won't all fit if I put my lunch in my lunch bag), water bottle, and coffee tumbler in it to work every day. I carry my 1/2" work binder, gym clothes and towel, lunch (without my lunch bag because my gym stuff won't all fit if I put my lunch in my lunch bag), water bottle, and coffee tumbler in it to work every day. This makes it full, but I can still zip it. I also occasionally add my laptop to the bag. Thankfully I don't park too far from my office because, honestly the weight of all that stuff, while still carrying my regular purse, is more of a problem than the size of my bag.

Yes you definitely can. It may be a little tight with your sneakers but it’s definitely doable. The bag is made for thin items like books, laptops, paper files so if you add your sneakers it may be a little snug but they will definitely fit.
