Virginia Tech wanted to address another pain point, which was the use of pcards. Pcard purchases did not always follow internal workflow controls as other purchases. In addition, they wanted to use the Pay By Invoice functionality and remove all Amazon spend from their pcard program. “At Virginia Tech, we work hard to limit the use of pcard for fraud and risk purposes. By implementing Amazon Business with an e-procurement punchout catalog and electronic invoicing, we removed over $1.5 million in Amazon purchases from the university's pcard program and those purchases are now processed through our university's e-procurement system,” said Mary.
Since launch, the university has been able to identify reportable second tier diversity spend. The university must meet management standards at the state level for utilizing diverse vendors. Mary explained, “This would be viable and reportable spend that the university had no access to reporting prior to implementing Amazon Business.”
