It would work outside in the rain. It’s an indoor outdoor extension cord. Pretty rugged and thick. I haven’t had any problems with mine and it’s constantly being used all over and outside of the house.
I would say yes. I use mine outside and its been rained on and the weather fluctuates and it's been fine.

I bought this to keep the electrical cord connections for my outdoor cats heated feeder, heated water bowl and heated cat house dry. This is a great box. I did buy the smaller one first thinking it would be big enough, which it wasn't but this one is perfect for the 3-connector extension and 3 plugs even with the spiral wire around the cords of the three animal products.
I have been using it in my backyard since June, so I think should be okay. But I can't tell you if it will stand up to the cold until next spring.
I have the large one and am able to run an outside extension cord through the openings. I would imagine it work.
