To say that this was a new DVD & was still wrapped in plastic when it arrived, I had some issues with it skipping at the start unfortunately! At £1.39 it wasn't even worth trying to return it & when it got past a certain point it continued to play fine & we were able to watch it as intended so 3* is for that reason.
The film itself was enjoyable. I had seen a clip on social media & that's what made me look it up. Glad I did. It's just the right level of cheesy, easy to watch & still made me squirm in parts! I do recommend the film itself just a shame about the faulty disc!

I brought this film with no expectations and purely on the biased fact how much I love Emma Roberts as an actress and I was not disappointed. Emma Roberts plays Vee a girl who lives life on the sidelines and never takes a risk. After been rejected by the high school douche she decides to sign up to a site called Nerve. You can either be a watcher and pay to watch people complete dares and have a say in their fate or you can be a player and have a chance of winning money to complete a dare. The higher the risk the higher the reward. Vee is a player and as the game continues it really starts to show how far people will go to make it to number one. I loved this film as it's something fresh and new and this is not a film I can compare to another. Also starring the amazing Dave Franco make sure not to miss this one!

Nerve ist ein modernes Young-Adult-Drama und gleichzeitig ein ganz aussergewöhnlicher Action-Thriller aus dem Jahr 2016 unter der Regie von Ariel Schulmann und Henry Joost, der sich trotz mainstream sehr von der Masse abhebt.

Es geht um die schüchterne High School Schülerin Vee (Emma Roberts), die an einen Online Spiel teilnimmt. Dabei bekommt sie von den Zuschauenden immer wieder Challenges gestellt, die sie für Geld und Internetfame ausführt. Vom harmlosen Kuss werden die Aufgaben immer verrückter und schliesslich sogar lebensgefährlich. Immer an ihrer Seite ist Ian (Dave Franco), der ebenfalls am Spiel teilnimmt und mit dem sie gemeinsam dafür kämpft in das Finale zu kommen.
Sydney ist Vees beste Freundin und schon eine Weile beim Spiel Nerve aktiv. Sie kämpft darum in die TOP 10 zu kommen und ist neidisch auf Vee, da sie plötzlich sehr viele Watcher bekommt und ihre Klickzahl in wenigen Stunden überholt.
Sobald man eine Aufgabe nicht schafft, wird man automatisch vom Spiel ausgeschlossen und verliert auch all seine Gewinne. Das treibt die Player natürlich an, immer weiter zu machen und für jede Aufgabe noch einen Schritt weiter zu gehen. Angefeuert von der Community...

Der Film hat viele spannende Momente, bei denen man kurz den Atem anhält und mitfiebert, dass alles gut geht. Die Bildgestaltung ist ein Mix aus Hollywood Kino und YouTube Ästhetik. Immer wieder kommen GoPros und Handykameras zum Einsatz, die visuell aus dem Film ein abwechslungsreiches Sehvergnügen machen. Gerade Szenen, wie eine schnelle Motorradfahrt oder Skateboardszenen, werden hierdurch regelrecht aufregend. Diese Effekte sind großartig gemacht.

Das Thema ist aktuell und super gewählt. Einige werden sicher an den Punkt kommen, ihre eigenes Verhalten in sozialen Netzwerken zu reflektieren. Das faszinierende an dem Film ist, dass man hinterher nicht sagen kann : Es ist ja nur ein Film. Vieles, was im Film bis zum Absurdum abgebildet wird, passiert in der Realität. Die App nimmt alle deine Daten von Profilen, die du im Internet hast und bastelt dir darauf aufbauende passende Challenges, die dich herausfordern und nicht einfach nur ein witziger Scherz sind.

Die Regisseure haben für diesen Film sogar echte amerikanische YouTube Stars gecastet. Der Cartoonist und Künstler „The Fat Jewish“ tritt zum Beispiel als Tätowierer auf. Großartig auch der Nebendarsteller, gespielt vom Musiker Machine Gun Kelly. Er spielt die Figur Ty, der versucht, neben Vee und Ian ins Finale zu kommen und den Wettbewerb unbedingt und mit allen Mitteln gewinnen will.
Alle Darsteller spielen sehr überzeugend, haben herausfordernde Rollen, die unendlich weit über das High School Film Klischee hinausgehen und Spannung erzeugen, wenn sie bis an ihre Grenzen gehen.
