I quit reading comics a few decades back, a friend recommended this as a jumping in point, can’t believe how good the X-men became after I quit reading comics. If you want to catch up this is an amazing point to start!
I bought the hardback version, there’s no flaws from what I’ve seen, it’s a beautiful looking book, but it is heavy and thick so marathon reading might be a bit uncomfortable.

Grant Morrison's "New X-Men Omnibus" collects issues 114-154 of the series and the 2001 annual. The series began in 2001, picking up from "X-Men" volume 2. In the wake of "X-Men: The Movie", artist Frank Quietly redesigned the characters and their costumes to reflect the aesthetic of the film. Morrison focused on a small core team and engaged with the type of politics that would surround mutants in the real world with obvious references to the gay rights movement. The series continued through 2004 before returning to the "X-Men" title with Chuck Austen's takeover and Salvador Larroca's return to the classic costumes. These "New X-Men" stories introduce Cassandra Nova, Professor Xavier's unborn twin who represents one of the X-Men's greatest threats and destroys Genosha, the mutant-run country, killing sixteen million mutants at once. In light of the time of publication, this event serves as a 9/11 allegory for the X-Men universe. Another story focuses on Xavier's young students, who begin to idolize the policies of Magneto and become radicalized. The third large storyline explores the Weapon Plus program, working in details from "Origin", recently published at that time. Finally, the series ends with two multiple-issue storylines about Magneto and the Phoenix. Morrison's writing and Quietly's art are still interesting and entertaining nearly two decades after this was published, but some of the guest artists leave something to be desired. This omnibus edition is nice because of how it collects everything, but its size makes it a bit cumbersome to read at times. Unlike other collected editions, Morrison's storylines are relatively self-contained with only passing references to previous events, so this is a nice way to read a coherent narrative.

The comics are amazing. The book was damaged the I received it. The jacket was cut on the upper left hand corner and the upper left corner of the book had a cut as well. It's a minor nitpick but its still annoying. 5 stars for the stories. 4 for the condition of the bool

No joke when it was listed as Like New. And for that price I was skeptical at first considering lower qualities were double the price. I was beyond impressed. This has been my favorite x-men story and I missed the first time the Omnibus was released. I'm glad that I can finally have this in my collection.

The manifesto by the author in the extra features explains it all: Grant Morrison set out to jumpstart the X-Universe in a way that has rarely been seen before. He succeeds in leaps and bounds. Here, he has all the epic grandeur spawning from the teams 40+ year history. But instead of getting bogged down by all that past, he uses it as "window dressing" for great stories about enormous characters.
HAVING THE WHOLE RUN IN ONE COLLECTION IS A DREAM COME TRUE! The oversized, glossy pages are gorgeous, and this is definitely worth the price tag.
And finally, the thing I like best about Morrison, is he made it suck to be a mutant again. For too long, Mutants were mostly beautiful people filling out sexy spandex that were "cursed" by their gifts. Wah. Characters like beak (a scrawny chicken-boy) and Three-Faced John make it easy to see why mutants are outcast, and that's what makes them so interesting.
p.s. I took off a star cause i'm not the biggest Frank Quietly fan.

Its sad that in two years time Marvel deconstructed the world Grant Morrison took four years to create. I'm glad that I purchased this omnibus so I could check out the most phenomenal XMen run sincE Claremont/ Lee. Not only does it collect the run in its entirety it also features the 2001 annual.
This collection also opens the Morrison Manifesto, his blueprint for the four years he would be writer. As well as the script for the first story.
Grant Morrison brought to the XMen the same mania he bought to such DC titles as : Doom Patrol, Book 1: Crawling From the Wreckage , The Animal Man Omnibus and his creator owned The Invisibles Omnibus .
He crafted some very good heroes ( Beak, The Stepford Cuckoos), Villains(Cassandra Nova, John Sublime) and got the team out of Spandex for 4 years and it's cool that that concept spilled over into other Xbooks.
This collecttion features a sewn binding which means it should stand up to multiple readings

This omnibus collects the complete run of Grant Morrison on the X-men and i have to stay i really enjoyed the story! it was one of the best stores i have ever read on X-men and despite the superpowers, fictional places etc. he manages in combination with the art to give a realistic feel to the X-men so even if you don't read comic books and just like the movies then you will definitely enjoy this omnibus. I recommend it for anyone from the movie fans to comic book fans
