Healthier Me

One story for the price of three books!

I never fail to pre-order a Elin Hilderbrand book and try to be patient between each release date. For the most part, I am very happy reading her Nantucket-based stories and have always enjoyed the characters and places she describes. Having just finished the Paradise trilogy, however, I’m a bit disappointed. First and foremost, I have a very hard time paying for a book that ends with a cliffhanger - where I’m supposed to wait for almost a year to see how the plot is resolved! In addition I abhor having to shell out more money for a second book that completes the story the first book started. To me, that’s just a ploy for more money by the publisher! When James Patterson did this with his later Alex Cross series, I quit reading his books, cold turkey! Finally, the characters in the Paradise trilogy were not as richly developed as the characters in the Nantucket based books; nor were their individual plot lines. Mother & two grown sons encounter hard times, manage to simultaneously find significant others and lose them, and then get them back by the end of the series. This is fodder for the Hallmark Channel at best! I could go on and on, but my main point is that Elin Hilderbrand, an entertaining and well- researched author, should maybe go back to writing one book about Nantucket a year and give the other locations a rest!

Be aware that this book has cliffhangers that force you to read the next in the series. Knowing this I went to my local library and checked all 3 out. Yes I haven't read a hard copy book in years , yes I am a Kindle Unlimited user but refuse to pay for a book I will only read once. Plus it is nice to hold a book and cozy up in my recliner with a cup of herbal tea and actually turn pages.

This book is part of a trilogy which isn’t apparent when purchasing this first book. I resent being tricked into buying sequels. Book was good but be ready to purchase 3 books, not 1

I enjoyed reading the first in the trilogy...Winter in Paradise but I must say that I really dislike books that do not end. I wouldn't have bought it had I known. Likely I won't buy her books again even though she is a great story teller.
I think probably I feel like I'm being scammed into buying the other books. I read a lot and if I like the author will buy the whole series.
Like Nancy Martin, Carolyn Haines, Janet Evanovich, Rita Mae Brown just to name a few. I purchase at least 100 books a year. I do love mysteries the best. I just finished The Chain and Labrinth, just picked up this one and read it today. I'm sure lots of people will feel differently. Enjoy your writing and I'll enjoy my reading. Teresa
