Having really liked Parker's work in the past, I was looking forward to his new series. Unfortunately, although there's a lot to recommend it, the book ultimately disappoints The plot can't seem to settle on what it wants to be, so it doesn't hang together. I stuck with it all the way, but the end was just wrong. Just. Wrong. It was as if Parker couldn't make himself do what the plot had been leading to since page 1; it's hard to say more without a spoiler, but the romantic entanglement was just ridiculous and felt tacked-on, and the denouement was just begging to be exactly the opposite of what it was.
