Customer Review

I purchased this light because of its integration into the Garmin computer ecosystem. As a stand alone light I like the form factor, size and weight. The light is reasonably bright and the features are promising. However as usual Garmin products are never ready for prime time at launch date. And at this one was no exception. While riding today again I noticed that the light network that was formed between the head unit ( Edge 1000) and the light disconnected twice during a 50mile ride. And the last time that it disconnected it did not reconnect automatically. I guess Garmin will issue an update to make this connection more reliable in the distant future or maybe they won't. Who knows. But anyway for now I will give it 4 stars ( maybe even 3.5 stars). Is it wrong to expect something to work flawlessly out of the box?
UPDATE: Well like I said before Garmin did fix the problem through an update. As they always do. The problem I found out was that there was a conflict between the light and one of their other lights the Varia radar in that if you had both on ( which is how they advertised it) it would cause the network to disconnect. To their credit they did send me a updating USB connector free of charge to update the light software. Turns out I didn't need it. The update was through the Edge computer. But as I said before why wasn't this conflict caught before launch date. The light was designed and advertised to work within a light network composed of other Garmin products. Shouldn't that basic incompatibly issue have been discovered BEFORE launching the product? Is that too much to ask? Sorry I am not changing my star rating. Come on Garmin this happens every time I buy one of your products. Tweaks I expect but not major issues like this. Get it together...
