This book was ok...at first. The first half of this book is a slow burn paranormal/supernatural story. The second half however is so frantically paced that it kind of ruins the immersion.
The book is short so we don't get to spend enough time with any of the characters to really care about them. I really want to care about Danni but I just don't. Her only real character trait is that she was abused by her dad. I don't think there is anything else you learn about her as a person throughout the entire story, and if there was I can't remember it.
The constant deluge of, "my dad is a bad man and did bad things to me" from Danni gets a little old. You get no real details of her experiences until much later, and by then it had no real impact on me as the reader. I should have hated her father as much as she did, but thats hard to do without knowing why for most of the story. I felt more for Annie than Danni, and Annie is only in the story for like 2 pages.
*MINOR SPOILER WARNING*
I have to mention the ending of this book because it is a major factor for my disappointment. Im all for tragic endings, as a matter of fact I expect it in stories like this. But there needs to be meaning in the tragedy. The sacrifices made by characters in the end of this book are meaningless. Had the last chapter been cut I actually would have felt better about it, but that last chapter ruined it.
