This is without a doubt the best book I have read in a long time. It tells the story about a nine year old boy who is constantly abused by his father. The child lost his voice after witnessing his father pushing his mother down the stairs which resulted in her death. His father threatened him if he ever spoke about it. After beating him again he runs out the door and hides in a moving van. He is afraid to come out because he sees and hears his father in a drunken rage running and calling to him. Suddenly the moving vans doors close and it takes off, traveling 3 hours away and stopping at a gas station in Wisconsin. He is found when the doors are opened but the van’s driver and his brother don’t report him to the police because they obviously had stolen the contents. They gave him $5 and told him to get lost and not say anything. From there on the story continues telling about his efforts of survival and the things that happen to him along the way. I don’t want to give any more away to spoil this story. It is a very emotional story and be prepared to shed tears while reading it. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. I would highly recommend it to others and I will be looking for other books written by this author.
