I liked this a lot. A good read with a bunch of strong stories with dark tones, creepy surprises, malevolent villains, and bodies that just wont stay dead thanks to mechanical intervention. Steampunk yes, but with a definite twist of horror. Of special note were Ron Collins's GRAND DANGOOLIE: a neat voicy alternate historical set during WW2 where both Harry Houdini and Hitler's minions put in a magical appearance. I loved Cindie Geddes's chilling monastic piece THE WHIRLING DREAMS OF ABERRANT BLOOD where girls have their blood used to animate machines. I also liked ST JEAN AND THE DRAGON by Brenda Carre, a steampunk reverse-role version of Sherlock Holmes and Watson with a Jinn in the Watson role and a headstrong demon-hunting sleuth named Jane who needs to discover the real dark secret buried in a hoarder's house. I adored Kelly Cairo's MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND. Steampunk meets Clash of the Titans. It has a really fun ending that was totally 'awww'. Recommended.
