Lara has always adored her father. After graduating college, she went to work with him and is now the CFO of their company, a company which needs to be updated before it goes under. Her father however is old school and set in his ways and doesn't see the need to make the necessary changes. Determined to save the company she loves, Lara turns to the one man she knows can help.
Conner is a successful businessman and is interested in Lara and her company. When she propositions him to marry her in order to become a board member for assistance in making good decisions to help save her business, Conner has his own proposition. He'll agree to marry her, but Lara has to agree to be his submissive. It will be a marriage for business yes, but it will also be a marriage of loyalty, honesty and sex. The only thing he doesn't want involved is love. Lara isn't sure how she can do that without her heart getting involved.
I really liked Conner. He had a messed up opinion of love because of events that he watched happen to his parents. He's never been in a relationship and he's never loved another woman. The Dom/Sub lifestyle enables him to keep his heart uninvolved. But the more time he spends with Lara, the more he likes her. The closer they get, the easier it is to see them together. He's stubborn and sexy and sweet all rolled up together. The sex scenes are nothing too extreme for those who are uncomfortable reading about this lifestyle.
Lara is a great character. She adores her dad and will obviously do anything to protect him and the company he started. She's scared of the feelings Conner brings out in her and terrified by how much she loves the things that Conner is teaching her. Her body responds to just his voice and the more time she's around him, the more she realizes how impossible it will be to keep her heart protected.
This is the first of three books in his series. Each are standalones. The other two books will be about Conner's brothers Cade and Nathan. Brand is already released and Boss will be out early 2016. This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm looking forward to reading more.
