Wow. What a great book to start off your holiday season. When you have an author as great as Roxanne St. Claire you're guaranteed a great read. I've yet to read one of her books that I didn't love. This one is no exception. You have all the elements for a great Christmas story including family, friends, community, and dogs. But to make this even better, we have history to add to the mix. You learn so much about Yiayia and her past and how it shaped her life and her attitude towards it.
It is known by everyone in the Santorini family that Yiayia has changed since she moved to Bitter Bark. She is no longer the angry, sharp-tongued grandmother they have known, but still loved, their whole lives. While she has a tendency to slip once in a while, she works hard to be a more positive person. This year Christmas is taking a toll on her resolve and her good friend Finnie is there to help her when she slips. When Yiayia shares her past with Grandma Finnie and a little with Pru, you get a peek at the why behind the attitude. As Yiayia, Finnie and Pru set out to find the special dachshund Yiayia feels she needs, they encounter one obstacle after another. As we come to expect from St. Claire, family, friends and love bring the real meaning of Christmas to us all. I laughed and cried throughout this book and loved every minute of it. I am so very sure that you will too. Please read Dachshund Through the Snow and make your holiday season just that much better, and your heart a little lighter.
