I like that this is an older couple (not in their late 20's or early 30's). Declan and Evie have been best friends for most of their lives and decided to take it to the next level on their mutual birthday day. When they arrive home, Declan finds out that his father was killed in a fire at Evie's house. Declan doesn't blame her or her family for his death, but he just kind of shuts down. He also freezes Evie out of his life. Twenty years later, she is back in town to help her grandfather. Declan knows he owes her an explanation, but he doesn't know what to say. He still loves her after all these years, and she still loves him, but can they get over the past 20 years? Thanks to an abandoned dog, they come together to help him, but is that enough? When Declan starts to come to terms with his father's death, he finds that he has a lot of questions. If he starts digging into the past, will that drive Evie away?
