Couldn't put it down. Very interesting, and a fabulous read. Takes in racial divides in South and the hurts still evident after all the years of discussion and trauma caused by black discrimination. It follows families through years and years of hurts and abuse The main character was white, but very bold about defending the rights and opportunities of the black population. She didn't always do it the right way, but was determined to help ALL that she could. Her falling in love with a black man in the South was easily accepted by her family, by knowing what kind of person she was. It was moving, happy, sad and above all it gave hope.
