I am a retired school librarian. I was in a K-8 school with several special education self contained class rooms. I had a very limited budget to purchase books for a wide variety of students. That being said I remain very interested in children’s books. I purchased this book for our oldest great grandchild who is in the third grade. She is a good reader and could handle this book but I’m not sure she’s ready for it. I read the book last night and found it very interesting. I liked the illustrations. I felt like the book was a bit too drastic for a third grader with a lot of unhappiness in it. The conclusion was a bit abrupt. I found myself wanting to share the book with a former colleague as I believe she would love this book. It is not a typical book for little folks but probably for older middle school or older children. I’m not sorry I bought it but will probably put it up for our girl in a few years.
