When I heard that Lee Mountford's book is similar to authors' Richard Laymon and Edward Lee (I am a huge fan of them) I couldn't resist and bought this book. Anyway I am a sucker for tourists-VS-cannibals stories. Now that I read this novel I can say that in its theme and mood is a close resemblance to Richard Laymon's "The Woods Are Dark" with a little bit Lovecraftian flavour. This book is a serious novel so you will not find here Edward Lee's crazy sex humour. But don't be mistaken, while I likened this book earlier to "The Woods Are Dark" the story in here is unique not just a dull repetition. Sure there are tourists who got attacked by cannibals in a wood and this is a gory work but the resemblance ends here. The writing is professional, you couldn't say that this is the writer's first published novel. It is a quick read mostly because the action is fast paced and the chapters are often end with cliffhangers. I heartily recommend it to any gore horror fan and especially to fans of the late grandmaster Richard Laymon. I am definitely buying the author's other books.
