If this book was by another author I probably would have given it four stars but I was expecting a bit more from Joe Abercrombie. For me the story dragged at times and I thought the resolution wasn't sufficiently set up.

The translation of elements typical to a story of the American West to his fantasy landscape was interesting: there were analogs to weary gunfighters, Indians, old Indian guides etc. I think that perhaps Abercrombie was influenced by the true life story of Cynthia Ann Parker who came to consider herself a Comanche after being being abducted by them when she was a child.
