I have read all of Tarryn's books. I had this one for three years before I read it. It is my understanding this was her first book. My issues were formatting. My book was triple spaced and had a lot of underlines and other marks I am guessing were for editing purposes. Since I know the authors writing style, I knew this would have some dislikeable characters and not be your everyday love story. It wasn't, it is one of my favorite things about this author. I wasn't a fan of the back and forth, I found myself hoping hard that Caleb and Oliva would make something beautiful out the mess that was going on, none of the characters are stable, none. I was emotionally hooked and by the end, knowing Oliva was headcase and Leah is hateable, I really wanted them to find their happiness. Like I stated, since I have read Tarryn's other books, I had an idea happy might not coming my way. I was more shocked at how sad I felt and happy at the same time for the ending. I really liked this book. It was so dysfunctional that it was likeable and refreshing from the formula and overdone genre writing that is so common and often boring.
There was a lot of sentence issues, marks and other things that distracted me a bit from the story. To be fair, I didn't check to see if there was an update for the book that I bought so long ago. It had all the messed up individuals, hate and crazy that Tarryn is known for. I really liked this book. I also wish I would have stopped with this book. I like the ending, the sadness, and the emotional roller-coaster. If you were to ask me, I would say read this as a standalone. Let it pull you in, piss you off and break your heart.
