First things first: I got sucked in by the dress on the cover. I guess by reading many other reviews, I wasn't the only one, so that made me feel a little bit better.

Overall, the book was just "OK" for me. I probably could have done without it, but it was an alright fluffy Summer read.

There were many things about the book that I didn't like:
1) The "heroine" of the story, America is annoying. She reminds me of Bella in Twilight except she is not whiny or co-dependent. That whole "I'm not pretty!!! Why do people keep telling me I'm pretty?!" routine is old and overdone. There is nothing new about it. Next?

2) The story line is predictable. HIGHLY predictable.

3) Plot moved much too slowly for my liking.

4) The end was the most anti-climatic end I think I've ever read. Honestly, I don't see how the author is going to drag this on into 3 books. I don't believe I'll read the books that follow because the first book just didn't hook me.

5) This is completely not dystopian at all.... and the author does not do a good job of solidifying the castes.

6) A lot of the teenage girls in the story who find themselves at the palace are ridiculously cliche'. Of COURSE the mean girl is supermodel gorgeous, and one of the top castes, and the Prince just can't see through her lovely facade! And of COURSE the girl named Tiny is ... tiny. And of COURSE the one girl who everyone can see actually someday being the Queen decides she doesn't want to be there because she hasn't fallen in love with the Prince even though they've just been there for a few weeks. And of COURSE the guy America loved from the beginning is a caste below her that is causing her emotional turmoil! I wouldn't have seen that one coming!

Although there were a lot of things I didn't like about the book, overall, it's an OK story. I feel like it was an interesting premise, but it could have been executed a lot better. I could have done without reading the book, but I totally want a dress like the one on the cover :o)
