To what length will a mother go to save her child? And what is the line between science and the supernatural? Wendy Paine Miller skillfully poses these questions in her debut novella, THE DISAPPEARING KEY.

After experiencing another stillbirth, Gabrielle & Roy Bivane take matters into their own hands--they use their scientific and medical knowledge to create a life-giving key, prying their child from death's grip. Fourteen years later their daughter, Oriana, begins to question the special attributes of her life--her very existence. Is she a miracle? Or a wonder of modern science? And when the key goes missing and the truth is discovered, what are the implications?

With its dynamic and witty characters; original plot wrought with suspense; and elegant prose, THE DISAPPEARING KEY is one of my favorite reads for 2013. Ms. Miller is skilled in her craft, and this novella has whetted my appetite for more of her work. I can only imagine the delight of reading a full-length novel from this promising new author.
