This is a philosophical parable about a city, called Omelas, where the happiness of everyone depends on the deep suffering of a single individual everyone else knows about. I really enjoyed the mastery of the author to describe the city and its people. I also find it very appealing that the meaning of the story is left to the readers interpretation and every one will have an idea of what Omelas means in the real world. The paradox does makes you think and I consider for a moment the answer to the fundamental moral question of the story: would you walk away from Omelas as well?
