I had an otterbox defender on my iPhone 6 for the past 2+ years. The OB provided excellent protection, never any fear with dropping my phone (even from ear-level onto concrete). But when I replaced my 6 with a new 8, I decided I wanted something a little less bulky (while still being able to clip it to my belt). So before I even received the phone, I purchased this case and two others (based on some online reviews of the iPhone 7 cases). This case is quite a bit thinner than the defender on my 6, but I think it still provides at least 75% as much protection. I'm not going to go torture test it, but I think it would probably hold up to a fall onto concrete (maybe unless it landed perfectly flat, screen first). Overall, I think this case provides a good mix of protection and function and I'm satisfied.
