Kaia and the Bees is another Maribeth Boelts hit in this house! Our kids (ages 12, 10, 8, & 7) really enjoyed the character development of Kaia... who was brave, but scared all in one. They wrestled along with Kaia as she decided if she was going to summon up her bravery and go on the roof with her dad, the beekeeper. They were also amazed by urban beekeeping, as we live in a smaller town without highrise buildings. Kaia was a great example for our kids of just taking the risk, even when it seems scary. Her rooftop bee experience didn't quite go like she planned, but even after things went a bit awry she came back around and still appreciated bees for their amazing qualities and sweet honey. Maribeth's descriptive language captures readers of all ages. Her wonderfully engaging writing, coupled with the beautiful illustrations, make this a real sweet read that we'd highly recommend!!
Real kid reviews... *K, age 7- I really liked that she liked the bees at the end. My favorite part was when she told stories of her being brave and she really isn't. *M, age 8- I like that she is brave but is still scared of something. I like that she went on the roof and tried it. I like at the end that she sets them free instead of swatting them. *C, age 10- I liked that she went on the roof because it was funny. I like that it also talks about bees and what they do.
