I don’t agree with reviewers who claim this book is superior to the film (the first film, not its sequel). It is quite different, to be sure. There is a great desire for animal pets in this book, as most animals have become extinct. This is prophetic of the author, and just one of many dire predictions. But I can’t relate to a protagonist who is so pathetic. The film gave us a protagonist who was tortured, but not brain damaged. I was unable to finish the book. Perhaps its the author’s drug addicted mind. We do face serious challenges on earth, and I’m grateful to him for pointing that out, but the film took this story to a new height. I’ll never forget Rutger Hauer’s performance. RIP Rutger.
