I use several of these units for areas of my house attached to powerline ethernet adapters. The product needs to be grounded to a metal CPU case in order to be effective. The only problem is that some of my units are used for TVs etc that are not in metal cases. I did find that you can force the clip at the end of the ground wire around the third prong of another plug going into an outlet. I had to test each one with a multimeter to make sure they had good ground using this trick. (WARNING do not attach anything to a plug going into the wall if you don't have an electrical background and do not know the difference between the three prongs on a plug. You could electrocute yourself and/or destroy your appliances connected to this unit.)
