This one was on my reading list for a long time. Was it worth the wait? Read on to find out...

First comment: To me, this book does not even begin to compare to JRR Tolkien. I am an avid Tolkien reader. and this does not even come close (did you know that Signum University offers a degree in Tolkien Studies?). I have not read and am not interested in Game of Thrones. Christopher Patterson does not compare himself to these authors, but reviewers do (maybe they have only seen the movies?). I will also admit that I am fairly new to this genre (I have only read a handful of similar books so far), with the single exception being Tolkien...

That being said, this is another type of fantasy book with its own unique plot, and an intriguing one.... I found myself lost in a fantasy world for awhile and was thoroughly entertained by this cleverly told tale. Yes, It was worth it...

A few quick thoughts: Three young farmers (two brothers and a cousin) set out into the world (together) for various reasons: adventure, wealth and one with the desire to save his family farm... Along the way are gypsies, dwarves, trolls, mercenaries and all sorts of strange beings... The journey is described so well that you engrossed in the story before you realize that it has happened... There is really so much going on and so many characters that come and go, that the story demands your attention... The story is fast-paced in some places and drags on in others... I would highly recommend this book to those interested in this type of epic drama...

AfterThought: I am definitely going to read DAK WINDS and BREAKING THE FLAME as soon as I can get to them... I have high hopes for this trilogy...
