I picked up Jeff Vandermeer's first book in the Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation, on a whim and was immediately sucked into it. The trilogy is a sort of sci-fi suspense series with wonderful detail and imagery. The third book in the trilogy "Acceptance" is written a little differently than the two that proceeded it, in that each chapter is written from a different character's perspective and from different points in the timeline of the series. I enjoyed being able to learn about the back story directly from the characters who experienced it, rather than second- or third-hand from administration in the Southern Reach, who are notoriously secretive and at times outright deceitful. The Southern Reach Trilogy has been a joy to read, and I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of suspense, conspiracy, or long walks through nature.
