Margaret Atwood is brilliant writer, and this book is no exception, but she does not spoon-feed the reader as to what exactly is going on. One must read with attention to discern what has happened to the main character, what is happening and what is remembered. If you are a reader who likes a story arc, this may not be the book for you. If you enjoy writing that puts you into the dizzying experiences of a main character, you may end up reading this book twice.
