I have a bad lower back problem, which I had it for many years. The pain comes and goes but once in while it gets really bad to the point where it's uncomfortable to sit or even lay down.

I purchased this Mueller Lumbar Support Back Brace while back in Regular size and I recently purchased FEATOL Lumbar Support Back Brace in Small/Medium size, and I want to share the goods and bads in comparison.

While Mueller's belt is pretty good, I found that FEATOL's belt has the following advantages and better design.

> Mueller belt has the traditional velcro while FEATOL has the new high-density velcro! The traditional velcro pulls the fabric over time and weaken the velcro strengh but the new high-density velcro seems to have less effect on the fabric while somehow it provides super velcro strength.

> The inner strap and the outer strap for Mueller belt have the same lenght, while the outer strap is much shorter than the inner strap for FEATOL belt. This might be the biggest advantage of FEATOL over Mueller. I'm not sure why Mueller decided to have same length for both outer and inner straps but this design makes it difficult to tighten, especially the outer strap. FEATOL's outer strap is shorter than inner strap yet it's elastic so it actually provides more firm and secure tightening around your waist.

> FEATOL has 4 firm splints on the back while Mueller has soft, carboard like support. 4 splints on FEATOL provides rigid and strong support for your back to help your stand/sit straight.

> Mueller's optional pad is thick with a cushion while the optional pad on FEATOL is very thin so it doesn't make much of difference. Mueller has better optional pad than FEATOL.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

2 out of 5 stars. I do think this is good product and well built but the design can be better from what I saw in FEATOL's belt.

** TIP **

The reason why I got Small/Medium size for FEATOL is because I have Regular size for Mueller and it was too big for my waist, which is 32". Even though length of Mueller's belt is 42.5", it stretches much longer when you want to tighten around you waist. The strap overlap for both inner and outer strap is just too much for my 32" waist that it's difficult to tighten and to get comfortable. If your waist if 32 or less, I suggest you get the Small/Medium size.
