I found this story, set in Britain in the years when the Anglo Saxon people of the land were constantly attacked by the Danes, both interesting and enthralling. The contrasts between the lifestyles and the religions of the two groups were highlighted. It was history rendered palatable and exciting by an author who had researched the period extensively.
The character of the heroine, Ceridwen, was well developed and credible, even if she appeared a little mature for her years at times. I imagine the youth had to grow-up fast in an age of constant wars and early marriage. Nevertheless, the unfolding story of Ceridwen’s eventful life kept me reading avidly and I shall certainly continue to follow her progress in the next five books in the series. I should like to read more of Sidroc, a Danish warrior who captured my heart, if not Ceridwen’s! 💕
Great historical novel. Well written and researched. Educational as well as compelling.
