A boy goes fishing but what he pulls from the water isn't a fish. Did the man in the water fall from the aqueduct above or was he pushed? Rutledge is sent to find out. Along the way there are more dead bodies, a missing child, at least one lying solicitor, and a cast of other characters--some suspicious, some not. What would Rutledge do without his motorcar so he can drive all over the place tracking down clues? Intriguing plot that makes you want to know who and why, but I must admit that it dragged on a bit longer than necessary as far as I'm concerned. Never mind. Just start skipping swathes of filler and you'll be glad you stuck with it. Oh, and along the way you'll learn about a special battalion in the UK military during WWI.
