Amazon.com Services LLC and/or its affiliates ("Amazon" or "We") offers you the ability to rent through Amazon.com ("Amazon Rentals") subject to the following conditions (the "Rental Terms"). If you choose to rent through Amazon.com, you accept the Rental Terms. Please read them carefully.
Your use of the Amazon.com website is also governed by our Conditions of Use and Privacy Notice, as well as all other applicable terms, conditions, policies, limitations and requirements. If, and then only to the extent that, the Conditions of Use, Privacy Notice, or other applicable terms are inconsistent with these Rental Terms, the Rental Terms will control only with respect to Amazon Rentals.
When you rent through Amazon.com, you may receive a new or used item but all rentals will be in acceptable rental condition. Acceptable rental condition means that the items you rent will always be professionally inspected and prepared by a qualified vendor. This means your rental item will always be in working condition with no structural imperfections that could impact the functionality. The products may be packaged in a generic box and will include relevant accessories with exceptions, if any, mentioned on the product detail page of that item. During the Initial Rental Return Period (“Initial Rental Return Period” defined as either (1) for semester-long rentals, the first 30 days of the rental period following receipt or (2) for 30-day, 60-day or 90-day rentals, the first 15 days of the rental period following receipt), you may return the item through Manage Your Rentals, subject to our standard Product Return Policies.
After the Initial Rental Return Period, you may initiate a return through the Manage Your Rentals page in your Amazon.com account. We are not responsible for items that are lost in transit from you to us or for items that are sent to us in error.
When we receive a returned textbook, we will determine in our sole discretion if it is in acceptable rental condition. If the returned item is determined by us not to be in acceptable rental condition, we may in our sole discretion charge you the buyout price (calculated as the full purchase price of the item as of the time of rental, less any rental fees and extension fees you have already paid), and ship the item back to you to keep.
By renting through Amazon.com, you are agreeing to return your rental item on or before the due date specified on the on the Manage Your Rentals page in your Amazon.com account. The due date for each item you rent as well as the option to extend or purchase your rental are available on the Manage Your Rentals page in your Amazon.com account. By keeping your rental beyond the current due date in the on the Manage Your Rentals page, you are agreeing to pay additional extension and/or buyout fees as may apply.
If the rented textbook you return to us is not postmarked on or before the textbook's due date, we may in our sole discretion automatically extend your rental period.
For semester-long rentals, we may extend your rental period by an additional 15 days and charge you the applicable 15-day extension fee for the textbook. If, again, the rented textbook you return to us is not postmarked on or before the last date of the 15-day extended rental period, we may in our sole discretion charge you the buyout price of the textbook, and the textbook will be yours to keep.
For 30-day, 60-day or 90-day rentals, we may extend your rental period by an additional 30 days and charge you the applicable 30-day extension fee for the textbook. If we continue to not receive your returned rental with a postmark on or before the last date of any 30-day extended rental period, we may in our sole discretion continue to extend your rental period by additional 30-day periods and charge you the applicable 30-day extension fee for the textbook, until the total amount you have paid for the rental period (including extensions) equals the buyout price of the textbook, and the textbook will be yours to keep.
You authorize us to charge any amounts owed by you under these Rental Terms to the card you used to rent the item or, if such card is no longer valid, to any other card we have on file in your Amazon.com account. Amazon Store Cards are not accepted as valid methods of payment for rental items. You agree to maintain in your Amazon.com account at least one valid card that expires no earlier than 45 days after the due date of the rental item. We reserve the right to block or cancel orders and suspend or terminate your account if you incur outstanding and unpaid fees for rented items and we are not able to charge such fees to any card on file in your Amazon.com account.
Title to each rented item remains with the party from which you rented the item (specified on your order confirmation) during the rental period. If you elect to purchase the rental item, or if we charge you the buyout price because you did not return the item or returned the item in unacceptable rental condition, title to the rental item will pass to you when we charge you the buyout price.
Risk of loss passes to you upon our delivery of the item to the carrier (both for the initial shipment and for any return shipments from us to you). For returns from you to us, risk of loss passes to us upon our receipt of the rental item from the carrier.
Amazon Rentals is currently available only to customers with shipping addresses in the United States (including the continental United States, Hawaii and Alaska, but excluding Puerto Rico and U.S. territories. Amazon Rentals is currently unable to ship items to APO / FPO addresses.
We may in our discretion change these Rental Terms or any aspect of Amazon Rentals without notice to you. If any change is found invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, that change is severable and does not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining changes or Rental Terms.
