The reader enters into the pain, joy and struggles of the people, longing to know more, living the horror and the cruelty of their lives, and understanding in a gripping and new (possible) way GOD's word. The BIBLE truly is living, powerful, convicting, loving, and personal because it is about a living, powerful, loving, and holy LORD in relationship with us. Thank you, Lynn!
I LOVED it! This author is amazing, and you will not want to put the book down. While the stories themselves are fictional, they do go along with the biblical accounts. I would highly recommend this series.
Once more, Lynn Austin has demonstrated her amazing gift for weaving history into amazing stories about characters who grappled with the same questions about life and God's hand on man's challenges that we do, even centuries later. I have read a number of her other books, and admit that the first few chapters of this series were a bit more difficult to "hook" me, as the time period is ancient Judah, and the initial challenges presented to the characters were beyond appalling! However, I was soon immersed in her development of characters, and learning history and it's impact on the characters. Throughout the series, I so appreciated her many quotes from the Bible, and her development of each character to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as they met incredible challenges. Thank you, Lynn Austin, for an amazing series that I often could not put down and read well into the night!!
This book series has become one of my favorites! It is easy to get drawn in to the story and the characters and feel like you're in it. It brings Scripture to life and gives great appreciation for the endurance and faith of God's people, as well as for our God who is above all gods and comes through for His people.
Lynn Austin is one of the best story tellers of the Old Testament. Her characters are real and her stories bring joy. Our Fathers forgiveness is shown over and over in the Old Testament. She brings us back in time to earlier days when God was the focus of all of His people’s lives. Ms. Austin brings these characters into our lives and make them as real and loveable as our own families. She brings God’s word to life. I have grown closer to God through her books. I wish I could write to you how big of an impact these stories have had on my life but I’m not good with words. Please read these books. I promise they will be a blessing on your life as it has been for mine. Thank you Ms. Austin for bringing God’s word better to understand. I’ve fallen in Love with God all over again.
Simultaneously riveting and immersed in scripture, this series is among the very best Biblical historical fiction I've ever read. Covering the reigns of Judah's kings Ahaz, Hezekiah, and Manassah (730-635 BC), the series brings the era of Assyrian domination into vivid focus as the kingdoms and individuals struggle with God, each other, and themselves. Completely true to known history of the era, including the recent discovery of a Jewish Temple and community from that era in southern Egypt.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. These books are written based on the lives of Kings, Ahaz, Hezekiah and Manasseh from the Bible. Although the author takes the liberty of enhancing the story with her own ideas of how the events in the lives of these men may have unfolded, the basic story line is the same as recorded in the Bible. A great read for those who enjoy biblically based novels. I now have become a fan of this author and look forward to reading more of her books.
A Brilliantly written historic drama, romance, thriller that has enabled/allowed me to really get to know people from the Old Testament that have previously just been part of a long list of names and did not appear to have any relevance to my walk with Yahweh, how wrong I was!! That these were real people and the story based on true events made reading at times thrilling and euphoric, at other times it was hard to persevere, just too painful. An excellent reminder of what Faith really is, that Yahweh's timing is not ours but is perfect and that righteous living according to the Torah/Bible opens the flood gates to Yahweh's blessings and miracles. I cried - a lot! - happy and sad tears, I laughed, I held my breath and I dreaded the end of the book which came all too soon! Thank you Lynn Austin, love your writing!!!
