Not what I expected, but better

First off, this book actually *may* be able to be read as a stand alone, but PLEASE go back and at least start with Checkmate #1 (if not aaaall the way back with the Rollers!). It makes it so much better when you know all these side characters!
But this book. Whew! The thing that I love about Emilia Finn is that I never know what to expect. Will it be action packed (Checkmate #1), or something just as intense, but incredibly personal (Checkmate #2&4), or maybe it’ll be crazy and wild (Checkmate #3&5). Somehow they’re all so unique and unpredictable. About the time you think you’ve found a pattern, bam! It’s dashed lol
We all knew exactly what big, bad Spence was going to be like. Rude, crude, and dirty. Just like we like him ;) Only...rude, crude, dirty Spence turned out to have a gentle side I didn’t really expect. That combination of dirty and sweet, and rough and gentle...whew. Had me fanning myself! 🤣 And while Abigail annoyed me a bit at first, once you find out why she is the way she is (oooh vague...) it makes sense. She’s a lot tougher than she seems, or even thinks. I loved that they were complete opposites. They had me laughing and frustrated and laughing and crying and laughing some more. This will definitely be reread when I need some romance or comfort :)
