As a mom and a professional with a very busy schedule, it is difficult to find the time to read, much less navigate through the myriad of content offered on topics of family issues and child development. And yet, I was unable to pull away once I’ve begun flipping through the pages! There are bite-size recommendations here on how to better balance your child’s (and your own) emotions and how to handle all sorts of situations, from how to really listen to your kids, how to recognize and acknowledge their behavioral patterns, how to help them deal with grief, how to make them thrive in all kinds of environments, etc. The clarity of tasks, ease of delivery, and real hands-on practices offered by this wonderful team of authors makes all the difference in the world!
As a mindfulness-based therapist, I am such a fan of this book and cannot wait to recommend it to the families I work with. The content is accessible, and it’s written in bite-sized pieces that a busy parent can reach for and utilize when they need it most. They offer simple practices that can be incorporated into day-to-day living. In addition, they provide helpful examples of how to speak to children about emotions and difficult conversations. Open the book to any chapter and you can find useful tools to help your family express their emotions and “find calm.” And the best part is the same practices they recommend for children are equally as effective tools for adults. This is a great book for the whole family.
As a therapist, I am always looking for resources to help with individuals and families. This book has so many concrete and useful exercises to use with children (and really all ages). It is a great source for parents that I work with that are in need of tools especially during pandemic times. It is so easily formatted to be able to flip through the chapters to explore and find what you need. I especially love the Calm Down Box to help practice self-regulation. Really, a practice of all the mindfulness exercises are so helpful. I know I will be recommending this book to families and other therapists.
As a parent and therapist, I found Find Calm to be an incredible guidebook for supporting ourselves and our kids in these stressful times. I especially loved the activities and the calendar, making it so accessible and creating a simple, daily practice that becomes fun habit. I loved that the whole family gets engaged! The book is clear, to the point, and a smooth read for busy parents. Highly recommend!
This guide is beautifully laid out, provides simple and meaningful deliverables for kids, and is a savior during this pandemic. Many children are struggling, and it's important as adults to know how to help them cope with this instability that the world is experiencing. I have found myself utilizing the information learned from this book with my own two kids in addition to my students. Teaching mindfulness and strategies for endurance in all capacities is beyond helpful for me as an educator for students with learning differences and as a parent.
I’m a therapist and a parent, and I have seen these tools work for my patients and family again and again. In this book, they’re also presented in a way that’s fresh, light-hearted, and easy to integrate in our insanely busy lives. I thank the authors. At a time when it seems impossible, they are helping us take actual good care of ourselves and our families.
As a mom and as a therapist, I highly recommend this book by Graber and Evans. It's filled with practical, helpful ideas for how to bring calm and serenity to your family. Like all moms, I try not to yell or lose my cool, but my young daughter can really push my buttons with age-appropriate defiance and other forms of push-back. This book has ways for ME to "find calm" - because there's no way my daughter will be able to do it if I can't. I'm so glad I found this book!
As a father and an educational therapist, I found this book immediately accessible and easy to read. It's filled with lots of great strategies any parent or professional can use to help create calm in a child's life. Don't tell anyone, but I found many of their tools helpful for me as well!
This is such a great tool for anyone with children in their lives! The authors did an amazing job making it an easy and engaging read for anyone not in the field of counseling. The book is full of ideas that parents and caregivers can easily get to explore and practice with their children. Great tool for all of us dealing with raising and caring for children during and post pandemic. As a mental health counselor, I highly recommend Finding Calm to parents, teachers, guardians, and even counselors like myself working with little ones.
