This author has plots and a writing style I can sink my teeth into and not come up for air. I’ve read several of his mysteries and finally caught up enough to read this one. It was just as good as I’d hoped with a solid plot, suspense, mystery and characters that draw you into their complicated lives. It has some romantic interludes, affairs, betrayal, murder and elaborate cover ups all tied to the tragedy of 9/11.
Walt is wallowing in forced retirement in Jamaica from the FBI when he’s approached to assist on the reopening of an old cold case. Little does he know how much it will change his life going back to NYC.
Victoria was about to be indited for murder when the plane struck the tower where she was meeting her attorney. She is never seen again, assumed killed along with so many others that infamous day. The 9/11 victim identification continues for years as technology improves. Her identification has finally been confirmed.
Avery is a successful TV news program anchor. She thrives on researching crime stories. She’s a relatable and likable character. Her past and secrets rival those of any mystery you’ll read.
There are lots of secrets to unravel in this story. I had ever changing theories and hunches and actually worked out some minor details. There’s a lot going on and many of my guesses fell flat. The finale was way more intricate than I expected and very satisfying. I liked everything about the story and will definitely read this author again.
