How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Love the strong leading character who survived some of the worse life had to offer. She finally thinks she has found happiness, only to find a very strange and horrific discovery.

I liked the absence of curse words, and the story moved fairly quick. There were, however, a few details that took away authenticity. For example, Ali meeting with a real estate agent and buying the house within a couple of days - no formalities like a deed company, signing papers with the seller, inspections, etc. And she started pulling up shrubs to clear the drive before she bought the house! Pretty sure that would be trespassing and vandalism. Overall the main character was not very believable. She just about shoots a man’s head off because he gets too close but then later she starts falling for another guy that she knows virtually nothing about. She always stays one step ahead of the grim reaper. There were several places the storyline needed more depth. Still, I would like to read more from this author.

Enjoyed the book and the believable attractions between kit and Ali and that it ended with them as it did. Enjoyed the town on pine island as most of it was familiar tome because I live in Florida

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite

I love Fern Michael's, and have read the Sisterhood, Kentucky, Vegas, Texas, men of Sisterhood, and countless of the stand alone. This was not my favorite.

First, the main character's backstop did not feel connected or necessary to the actual present day story.

Second, the book was wrapped up quickly in 2 chapters.

I didn't feel the relationship development of characters, so, I didn't connect with the relationships. And two that were seemingly strong, seemed to develop at warp speed, while the main three seemed to drag with building.

Was not the speed I am familiar with.

Of the positive, I was waiting for something to happen most of the way through. Not because it was dragging, but because every character was a red herring. Then, quickly, became obvious, that they were involved.

Without giving much away, there was an over focus on the gun, which had me ready for it to do something in each encounter. Yes, the gun was a character in the book that was referred to often. Too much emphasis.

Not one of the best.

This was my first time reading anything by Fern Michaels, and I wasn’t impressed. I’m not sure where the author planned to go with this story, or if she, like her character, ended up in a different destination than planned.

The book begins immediately after the protagonist’s high school graduation. Allison Marshall has been raised in foster homes and all her experiences were bad. At the end of the prologue, she is attacked by an unknown (to the reader) assailant, so she leaves the state of Ohio behind.

The timeline jumps a dozen years to the summer of 2022. Allison is fed up with her job as a waitress and decides it’s time to move on. She’s done that a lot over the years, doesn’t make friends with anyone, and doesn’t trust people. With plans to relocate to the Florida keys, she makes a stop on an island and decides to stay.

From there, the story went all over the place. Allison finds some abandoned kittens, decides to take them in, then by chance finds their owner. She stays a night in a seedy motel, except her room is immaculate, she finds a beach house for sale at an unbelievable price and decides to purchase it. (By the way, the sale went through faster than any real estate deal would in the real world.) Not only that, Allison, who has worked her entire life as a waitress and spent a lot of time living on the streets and eating out of garbage cans, has the money to pay cash. Really???

There were so many unbelievable things in this book, it would take a novel to write them all down.

Suffice to say, there was a crime and it wasn’t connected to Allison’s past which is what one might expect because of the prologue.

The characters are underdeveloped, many of them unlikable (I honestly didn’t care much for the protagonist), and the plot lines were all over the place. And please, “The past is prologue?” How many times did I have to read that in this book? Apparently, Ms. Michaels loves that line because she includes it in her bio.

Don’t waste your time or money on this one. I’ll give it two stars and that’s being generous.

Alison had a hard life in foster care homes and then on her own after graduation from high school. She worked hard and had done some saving. She arrived on an island and found a beach house cottage she purchased. Little did she know, there were strange things happening on the beach.
