This is the first series I’ve read with other POV that are not the main couple. First book is free, so I was going to read the first couple and then survive not reading the rest until I get some savings. But this book, suckers you right in by loving the side character so you have no choice but the buy the next books pronto!! I loved having their POV on things. LOVED IT!!!!

Freaking loved it! Loved the snark, loved Sloane and how strong she was, truley strong too, not the heroine that pretends she’s strong but underneaths she like every other girl! Loved the step brothers who didn’t hate each other. The banter at the wedding, hilarious!

And that ending! Your a very smart Author Elle! Onto the next one!!!

Misfit (Book 1 in the Prep Novel series) by Elle Kennedy

3/5 ⭐️
2/5 🌶️

I am going to start this off by stating - this is not a favorite from Elle Kennedy of mine.

This book took me way too long to read for 400 pages. It’s hard to get into and it’s hard to keep track - there are 5 POVs to keep track of and honestly the side characters too which brings about a total of 8-10 people you have to learn about and it’s a lot especially for building the plot of your book.

There are scenes in this book that depict a MMC that is bisexual and he has scenes with a F and a M - however the scenes with the F are way 🌶️ and are given more detail than the ones with the M which to me seems like it’s a bit of baiting. You’re given glimpses into what the M and M scenes are but nothing like the M and F scenes and that just gets to me.

This plot takes way too long to get to - there are so many pieces of a puzzle you have to get to and then it ends on a cliffhanger so of course you have to continue the series to get your answers. The last 30 pages drew me in enough to want to finish the series so that I know what happens - but honestly I was just so disappointed reading this books since I have read every other Elle Kennedy book. This just didn’t live up to the hype for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars a book full of chaos

did i get major whiplash from reading multiple pov’s in one book? yes. did i enjoy the chaos though? absolutely.

a bunch of delinquent misfits in an all-boys prep school. two girls who are off-limits because their dad is the headmaster of said prep school. lies, drugs, sex, crime, you name it. they indulge in all of them. while the multiple pov thing is not my usual preference, i didn’t mind it here because all of the characters were so different that it was easy to keep track of them. they all had baggage. they all were outcasts. it was fun to read how messy they all were tbh. i enjoyed this more than i anticipated.

it helps that this book has a mystery aspect to it. i loved pretty little liars back in the day and this is the closest resemblance to that.

i am definitely starting book two asap!

I loved loved the sarcasm… I laughed so much. The character and relationship development was great! Story and plot was better than good.

RJ .. he ate it.
Lawson… he ate all the crumbs
Fenn.. he tracked it
Sloane she slayed
Silas kinda leveled them all out
Casey was docile but I loved her character as well..

Heck I even liked Duke.

The audio narration was like my dream team.

This book is definitely worth the read.

New Adult Romance
5 POVs
Forbidden Romance
Prep School
Mystery suspense
Drama filled

RJ is a rebellious loner. His mother suddenly marries a rich man she met while working as a stewardess on his private jet. Now RJ has a new step father and step brother he does know and is now shipped off to prep school with his new step brother Fenn. Sandover Prep School is a school for rich delinquents. As much as RJ wants to be left alone to complete his senior year. He ends up meeting Solane the head masters daughter who is forbidden to associate with. Rules never stop RJ.

Review:
I normally don’t like multiple POVs. It usually gets very convoluted, but I have to say I really enjoyed this one. Elle pulled it off. This book is loaded with drama and loads of angst. I loved banter between RJ and Solane. The forbidden romance aspect I loved . It just flowed and not over the top.

The other POVs are from RJ Step brother Fenn and 2 of his friends Silas and Lawson. I really enjoyed being in there heads. Especially Lawson. I need more of him. His mind is so interesting. They truly are a bunch of Misfits.

There a few subplots going on. That’s where all the drama lies. The ending was a shock. I’m left itching to know what’s going to happen. Cliffhangers and the anticipation to wait. 😩

I enjoyed this book. Thank you Elle 🫶🏼

This was my first journey into an Elle Kennedy book. I’ve had a ton of her books on my TBR and figured I’d start with this one. The only reason I gave this a four and not a five was because it took me a little while to get used to following the POVs of so many characters, but once I did it was smooth sailing to that twisty end! The perfect amount of spice, humor, friends drama, family drama, inner drama it has everything really. It’s an enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, and taboo tropes all in one. I’m very much looking forward to Rogue!

3.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing start to a new series.

I was really looking forward to this new series from Elle Kennedy. I was hoping it would have some Erin Watt Royals vibes (it did) and I was intrigued by the blurb. Did I end up loving it? Not really. I guess I liked it. I'm having a hard time deciding. There were a lot of great things about it, but there was also some stuff that bugged me.

The first chapter of Misfit got my attention in the best way. I was instantly into the story and curious as to where it would go. I loved the idea of a boarding school for rich, troubled teenage boys. The atmosphere at the school set a great tone for the story. RJ, our main male MC, was a lone wolf who didn't want to conform to the social constructs of Sandover. He's a hacker who is too cool for school. Despite wanting to avoid everyone and everything, he ends up in his stepbrother Fenn's friend group. I liked his character.

Fenn, Silas, and Lawson are the guys who also have POVs. Yes, there are multiple POVs in this book. It worked and it didn't. Each of these four young men is interesting in his own right. Fenn had the hots for a girl he shouldn't. Silas has a girlfriend but it's hard to tell if that's who he's really into. Lawson is a freaking mess who is partaking in drugs and all sorts of sex. All have mommy or daddy issues. I enjoyed getting to know them. Only problem is their POVs slowed down the story/romance between RJ and Sloane. It took so long to build up to anything that I found myself getting bored and having to push myself to keep reading. Which kind of sucked because once I got to all the fun stuff in the last 1/4 of the book, I was ready to be done with it. Honestly, maybe a prologue novella introducing all the guys would have been better and less distracting. It might have been better if it was just RJ and Sloane.

Sloane did get her own POV in this book as well. There weren't enough of her chapters to endear her to me, honestly. She was an "ice queen" who was all about hooking up, running, and taking care of her sister. Despite that, I did like her with RJ. Their relationship moved fast but had some sweet moments. I also liked how her ex-boyfriend Duke played into the story. There was also an interesting mystery surrounding something that happened to her sister Casey that I wouldn't have minded spending more time on.

I think what it comes down to with Misfit is that there was too much included in one book. Taking out the POVs other than RJ's and Sloane's might have helped. It would have given more time to develop the relationship between RJ and Sloane and moved the story along faster. Each of the other guys is getting their own book anyways. Maybe the multiple POV over the series will make more sense than just in this one book. I don't know. I guess I'll find out later.

My favorite parts of this book were the beginning, the characters, and then the end. I'm really curious about these characters and where their story is headed. The last 1/4 of the book had the action I need to be enthralled with the story. It also ended with a cliffhanger I didn't see coming. I was thinking I might not continue the series at one point when I was pushing through, but who am I kidding? I want to know what is going to happen to these guys.

Oh man, I have a serious thing for angry chicks. I don’t know what it is about a girl with a chip on her shoulder who looks at me like she wants to kick my teeth in, but it makes my D twitch. 😉

4.5 ⭐️

This book is a bit of a departure from the other Elle Kennedy books I’ve read (and loved). Misfit Prep is set on an all-boys boarding school campus and has multiple POV chapters from our main guys RJ, Fenn, Lawson, Silas and also Sloane. I really enjoyed this format of storytelling and meeting everyone through their own POVs. It also helped facilitate the storyline and kept it from getting dull.

This book introduces us first to RJ and Fenn, who have now become step-brothers. RJ is a delinquent from the wrong side of the tracks, whereas Fenn was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, so they aren’t really on even playing fields when they meet and don’t care to really get to know each other. That is until RJ now has to attend this elite boarding school and has to room with his new brother. RJ is like a fish out of water amongst the rich since he’s so used to being a loner and moving around a lot while his mom had different flings, whereas this is Fenn’s home away from home with his buddies who cause trouble wherever they go…and these boys are trouble with a capital T. Fenn is the pretty boy who’s always up to something, Lawson is the wild card, and Silas on the outside seems the most put together, but looks can be deceiving. Meanwhile RJ is getting to know his surroundings he runs into a girl who is full of snark, just how he likes them. Sloane however is more than just snarky, she is a “I give zero fs” type of girl and will put you in your place without a second thought. RJ and Sloane’s banter was so good and I loved their initial tension and build up. Sloane however does have some issues of her own, specifically what happened to her sister Casey last spring during Prom which becomes the big underlying mystery of the book. We don’t necessarily found out all the details, but hopefully in the next book we will because this does leave off a little cliffhanger-ish and I need a Casey POV and want to see how she ends up with her man 😉.

I really enjoyed this book overall and how it had a different feel with the multiple POVs. RJ and Sloane were so good and I still need more of them in the next book. RJ finding a home after all amongst his step-brother and friends was really good to see, his delinquency really just fit right in with the rest of them. Each boy though has many secrets and as this continues we should learn more about. Especially whatever happened to Casey and the accident. Ugh! I really really wish book 2 was already out!

This story really touched my heart. The characters are well developed and they are likeable and relatable. Elle Kennedy has great insight to the teenagers mind and how the cope with the difficulty of growing up when they have no parental guidance in their lives. The story will tug at your heartstrings and you'll find yourself rooting for all these misfit kids to find their way in life. If 10 stars were available, I would have rated this book a 10!
