Worse, Sicarius, the empire's most notorious assassin, is in town. He's tied in with the chaos somehow, but Amaranthe would be a fool to cross his path. Unfortunately, her superiors order her to hunt him down. Either they have an unprecedented belief in her skills... or someone wants her dead.
The Emperor's Edge is approximately 105,000 words.

I'm a fan of Lindsay Buroker's writing, I read her series about Starcrest and Tikaya, the ENCRYPTED series, which took place 20 years ago, in the time line, which led me to this series. Usually I try to review a book before I go on to read the next one, but this series melds together so well that I just kept reading right to the end. Finished one, immediately began the next.
I bought the three book set at first and then went on to buy all the others. Just save yourself some time and money and buy the whole 9 book set!
Some things I love about these books are the vocabulary stretching I get with each one. I love new words and I'm glad that I'm reading on my Kindle app so I can quickly discover their meaning. Another is how we get to know the main characters in book one and then the other characters each have a chance to have a major part in each of the other books. Lastly, I liked seeing how Sicarious showed growth emotionally, in his own way, in each book. Amaranthe was the catalist for that as well as for all the team's adventures.
The series starts with the introduction of the protagonist of our story, Amaranthe Lokdon. After a series of events, she becomes a fugitive (through no fault of hers) and uncovers a plan to depose the current young emperor. Because of her values, she ends up deciding to fight back to protect the emperor by creating a band of misfits, starting with the infamous assassin, Sicarius. She later recruits Books, Maldynado, Akstyr, and, much later, Basilard. They battle a lot of... things... despite not being acknowledged for their courageous deeds. Of course, they are no longer fugitives at the end, but the poor guys suffered quite a bit and are somewhat traumatized. Nevertheless, they do get their own happy endings, which are continued through Books 8 & 9.
I love this series. Despite not having much money, I ended up buying the rest of the series (got first three books for free, yay) except the last two. It's just that addicting. Sometimes the action is overwhelming, but I still love it. The characters themselves are the main reason for why I am sure you will love this series. They already are unique in the first book, but coupled with growth and lots of humorous antics? Man, I was slayed! If you want a book with fantasy elements, lots and lots of action, a bit of romance here and there, with large doses of humor, and some drama to help the characters mature, then you should really buy this series.
While you're still deciding whether to buy or not, I'm off to my Kindle app to read her Dragon Blood series... Well, the first three books anyway.
The way Lindsay write is a guarantee that you will enjoy the read
Fell in love with story and characters.
Didn't want to think their story ended with with 8.
Thank goodness I came to write this review and saw there is a book 9.
Hope my library has it. If not I'm going to recommend it!
Inviting, and intriguing start for a new set cjb.
