The adversary in the story was typical and would have been better than her ex-husband and the pissed off football player because you could see where that part of the story was leading up to a mile away.
I wanted to like the series and I purchased all of them. I don’t regret my purchase but the controlling Townsend men come across as bullies and nothing more.
Destiny code of ethics truly landed her in some hot water. The Townsend Men knew how to dish out their own justice. Destiny kept telling Tyler I’m too old for you etc. etc.
Like the dynamics of the family and the children. The Townsend Men got their alpha attitude from their dad Robert. I would like to read a book about Robert and Deb before their children.
In this book we see Leonard, a Black male we are told had a Mother who abandons him and his father early in his life. So, he has vocal distrust, hostility and cynical-issues towards Black women. Destiny, our heroine, feels the brunt of his hostility. Darryl, the ex husband of Destiny, is portrayed as a serial cheater and disrespects his marriage vows. Not sure why Darryl is the way he is, but I think his nature should have been obvious to Destiny way before the final nail hit that ended their marriage. If she is such a strong go getter and take no junk female, why did she allow Darryl to treat her as a doormat for so many years? Was her head in the clouds and she was trying to live out the version of life her cheer leader girl friends were living? Anyway, as strong as she says she is, it did not take long for Tyler Townsend to topple her mountain and have her on her back, side or whatever, doing his bidding!
All the above is just my observations, but the ending is what upset me so much! There should be a place in life for Leonard to be forgiven and to find help, with the right person, for his bitterness and hostility toward women! Especially, as this was created by a non-nurturing mother or whatever her reason for abandoning her son! He should not be crippled financially or physically just because he dared to cross Destiny and anger Tyler, who is a threat himself with anger management issues! Same with Darryl! He should not be murdered just because he cheated and was dishonest in his dealings with Destiny! Phillip Morris is another matter, that I will leave for someone else to give an opinion!
I have enjoyed this Townsend series, but this one just was too punitive and destructive in its portrayal and treatment of the Black males! We need to really rethink our own views and our possible hidden biases toward people of color! While I am happy that Destiny got her HEA, it did not sit well with me that they could be so serenely happy after destroying two lives. We can punish people without annihilating their total existence!
