I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms.
I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar.
Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her?
(Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.)
Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined.
I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start.
But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves.
Even if it means giving her up.

Is there anything better than finishing a book and feeling sublimely happy? Like just down to your core bliss that can only come from the beautiful words of characters you love. I mean, I know there isn’t, but I feel like I’m obligated to ask the rhetorical question. I’ve always had a huge love and appreciation for Melanie Harlow’s books…and Irresistible is a classic example of why. Packed full of emotions that take me on a complete journey…giving me new (and some old) characters to swoon over and fall in love with…a good helping of humor and delicious sexy times…it’s all a complete package that makes me fall in love every. Single. Time. And I’m here for it people…always will be. I was super excited when I heard that Melanie was going to write the Cloverleigh Farms Series…we’re first introduced to the Farm and Mack in Only Love, the last book in the One and Only Series, and when it comes to writing sisters/families…Melanie does it so well, so I was amp’d to get to me a new cast and crew that I would get to fall in love with – and the Sawyer family is already shaping up to be amazing.
Frannie Sawyer…sweet, gentle Frannie - the baby of the five Sawyer sisters and this girl does have an interesting story. She’s been through quite a lot health wise and while it did mean her life wasn’t exactly ‘normal’, it hasn’t held her back in any way – except for maybe keeping her social circle on the smaller side. She’s super friendly and outgoing, I loved her personality and I looooved how much she loved to cook. Girl could make a mean macaron and I was all about it – seriously, I will never be able eat/look at/see a macaron and not think of Frannie…and that makes my heart happy.
“What’s wrong with me that I’m not out there in the world being a badass?”
He shook his head. “You don’t need to be a badass. You don’t need to be anything other than what you are. And frankly, the world could use more people like you.”
“What am I like?” I asked, surprised and flattered by his words.
“Sweet. Genuine. Kind.”
Declan “Mack” MacAllister…oh my sweet single dad stars, this man did so many things to me. Gah…and did I love every single one of them. He’s soooooo good…like such a good, solid man and even when he messes up, I still just wanna give him a hug and tell him it’s going to be okay. I hated all the crap with his ex-wife…I hated that it happened to him, I hated that it happened to his girls, all of it was just bad all around, but I can say he handled it the best way he could – by putting his children first. He is seriously the best dad ever. Any single parent out there deserves ALL the praise in the world because it’s like 10 full time jobs and I can’t even imagine, but seeing his day-to-day life, man – he’s a champ. Swear jar and all. I loved the relationships he had with his daughters – I loved his daughters to the moon and back, each of their personalities were just adorable.
‘For a moment, I let myself imagine what it would be like if I were younger and didn’t have kids. If I were free to pursue her. Win her. Keep her. Christ, I’d effing spoil her rotten all the time. She was that perfect combination of sexy and sweet— it drove me crazy in the best possible way. In another life, I’d have done everything possible to make her mine.’
There is so much right about Mack and Frannie…so much to love…so much to enjoy…and trust me, I ate up every second of it. The forbidden aspect was there (them not wanting her parents or his kids to find out), it wasn’t as forbidden as I wanted it to be, but I still liked it. There was also the age gap, the fact that they worked for her parents farm, but all that meant nothing against the face of their chemistry. There wasn’t a whole lot of effort on establishing it either…it just was a fact of nature, they have known each other for years and there’s been an underlying attraction so it was nice that we could kind of skip all of that and get straight to the meat of their relationship. Because of the circumstances, it’s not like they have the normal let’s-go-out-on-a-date kind of thing, but I loved what they had. Cooking at home and movie nights with his girls was literally all I needed. And seeing them all interact as a family was so heartwarming – it wasn’t like she was trying to replace their mom but it felt like their new version of normal and it made everyone (Mack, Frannie and his girls) beyond happy…so clearly I was over the moon about it. I loved their physical chemistry and jeez-us do not get me started on Mack’s sexy as heck dirty mouth and I loved that he kind of pulled a more sexual side out of Frannie. Once again, due to the circumstances of the situation with his family and her family, it’s not like the back and forth could have stretched out forever but I do wish we had had a couple of weeks to really ground them before the angst happened.
“Hey. Listen to me.” Leaving the listings on my desk, I came around and took her by the shoulders. “You are smart, talented, and persistent. If you don’t know the answer to something, you’ll find it. And you’re not alone.”
“No?”
I shook my head. “You’ve got your sisters, you’ve got an ally in this Radley woman, and you have me. I’ll be here for you every step of the way.”
Her lips tipped up. “You will?”
“Yes.”
She slipped her arms around my waist and looked up at me with adorably huge eyes. “Tell me again that I have you.”
“You have me.”
Oh Melanie Melanie Melanie…my love for her books astounds me sometimes. I mean, they’re classic examples of why I read romance…she packs in everything I’m looking for and then some and I live for it. I love her style and brand of romance and it’s the main reason why almost five years after reading her for the first time, I’m still hooked on her amazing characters, fantastic emotions and wonderful words. I love the way she balances the angst…I love how she inflicts comedy into certain scenes…and I am obsessed with the emotional rollercoaster she always takes me on. Also…I love it when Melanie writes books involving children – I love the way she incorporates them and even though they’re not the main focus, I love falling in love with their personalities and what they bring to the story. Especially with Irresistible, they play a pretty big role and I completely loved every scene involving them. Plus towards the end, when the angst was at level 87, and then the kids came in - gah! I was already struggling not to cry…but you can’t expect my eyes not to leak when kids get involved! I’m not made of stone Melanie!
‘I watched her leave, feeling that ache in my chest again, and I wished there was a way I could’ve asked her to stay. I was tired of being careful, tired of missing her at night, tired of feeling bad for wanting her, tired of feeling like I was one person with her, and a different person with the kids. Neither version of me was complete.
I wanted to be both at once.’
The ending was good…smooth…I kind of wanted a little more from the convo with Mack and his girls, but that’s me being super picky and needy (and of course always wanting more!). I loooooved the epilogue…another thing I love about Melanie’s book is the way I feel at the very end – it’s like my heart wants to explode with unicorns and rainbows. It’s impossible not to feel good about a book when it ends and you’re insanely happy…I’ll never complain about it. And I love the way everything was resolved for Mack and Frannie…it was just perfect for them. I did wish there was more resolution on one or two things with Mack’s ex-wife but they were minor in the grand scheme. I’m so ready for the next book in the Cloverleigh Series – it’s Chloe’s turn with Undeniable ! Chloe is the closest to Frannie in age (5 years older) and also worked at the Farm and I can’t wait to see what Melanie does with her and Oliver! #TakeMeToCloverleigh
I listened to this on audio and I was absolutely hooked, a small town, single dad, age gap will just get me every single time. I absolutely loved how apart of the story the hero Mack’s three girls were. They really were so much fun reading about. The relationship between the heroine and the girls were also so precious. Mack and Franny’s relationship was a bit all over the place, but it didn’t bother me much and made sense in the story.
This story was really comfy and sweet but yet spicy in the same sentence.
Frannie was a sick child, having multiple open heart surgeries. Her parents scrambled to keep her healthy and safe, resulting in her feeling left out from the sister-relationship her sisters all have, and missing out on all the normal childhood experiences like going to school or playing sports. At 27 years old, she is still living at home and completely smothered by her parents, never having been allowed to follow her own dreams or choose her own path. You clearly feel those emotions from her, while at the same time you can understand what brought her parents to treat her that way.
Mack is struggling after his wife left, and he found himself a single parent to their three girls. He feels like he’s failing at everything, which is a big part of how he handles his feelings for Frannie. They have such a great relationship, and are perfect compliments to each other. But sometimes we get in our own way 😉
There’s no OW/OM drama, no contrived or fake third act break up just to fill some pages. It’s just two people with real baggage, trying to figure out if they deserve to be happy and how to make things work. This author gifts us with beautiful characters, well written stories, and all the feels that pull at all the heart strings.
"You should tell me to go to bed," I said quietly.
"Why?" she whispered.
"Because if you don't, I'm going to kiss you."
It's not a slow burn... but somehow Melanie added in just enough tension and conflict to make the pay off feel like you've been waiting years for them to admit their feelings!!!
Mack was undeniably hot. The way he interacted it his kids was so funny I was cackling! But he had a serious side to him too that was sad and lonely... Frannie really brought out the good in him. They were such a perfect match to me!
In terms of small town romance with swoon worthy declarations of love, a little angst, the right amount of spice, and incredible tropes... this book HITS THE MARK. It's one that even though I read it on my kindle, I want to have a physical copy on my book shelf as a little trophy and to re read again someday. Highly recommend this author and this book!!!

I adored this book so much.
27 year old Frannie is Mack's part time nanny who is 10 years younger than him, his boss's daughter, she works with him, he's got three young daughters, and he's newly divorced but try as he might he can't stay away from her even though he thinks he has nothing to offer her.
This friends (or at the very least co-workers) to lovers story is not intense or dramatic to read, but it's a warm and lovely story that's packed with great characters - Mack's daughters especially bring a lot to the story. Plus you can already start to get a feel for what other side characters might get their own story.
This is a brilliant reset your brain type of book after a slump or intense read that will just make you feel good. Plus will leave you desperate to move to a small town and have a very sweet romance all of your own.

In bed, he wishes for a Sunday morning when he can sleep naked and late, go for a run or not have to get up to make breakfast for his three kids. But it will never happens!
Beautiful Frannie Sawyer is a sweet twenty seven old who still lives with her parents. She also works for them and is a part time nanny for Mack's children. She loves them. Cooking and baking is a hobby that could become a business. But does it?
Mack and Frannie both have feelings for each other from a distance. Close up neither have expressed their feelings. Except the night, when Frannie's car is snowed in and unexpectedly Mack's car won't start. Well, one kiss leads to a sexually fulfilled night that they both decide did not happen the next day. But it did. And what happen next in their lives...?
You must read this lovely book and find out yourself. You will feel good at the end.

Mack is a single father of three young daughters who struggles with the demands of parenthood. Frannie is his part-time nanny and the daughter of his employer, but he can’t help his romantic thoughts for her when she is around.
Frannie adores Mack and his children and has been harbouring a secret crush on him for ages. There’s definitely a spark of feeling between them, but Mack is adamant, with his complicated and demanding homelife, that nothing permanent can come from it.
This is a fun and sweet romance with some heated romantic scenes. I particularly liked Mack’s children, especially when they called him out on his swearing and his bad behaviour. Ideal for a quick afternoon piece of escapism reading.

The visuals that Ms Harlow has described perfectly in this book had me laughing out loud... Mack is such a great dad and the interactions with his daughters are human and real... I love that this isn’t an unrealistic chocolate box family but true family life... warts and all!!
Frannie is a breath of fresh calming air to them all and deserves her chance to be a part of their family.
