There are several covers to these books. I started reading the first book (Outlander) that I picked up at a half priced book store. However, the book was "small"-ish. It didn't want to stay open in my hands. The font was too small to read comfortably without my reading glasses. Add to that, I didn't love the cover art with the actors on it - no offense intended, I just like clean book covers. After reading half-way through the first novel with this used copy, I decided that I was "all in", and looked to see what a set would cost. This full set is highly economical compared to purchasing each book one at a time. The covers have a flow to them so that it looks like a set rather than an eclectic hodge-lodge of acquired books. Usually, that doesn't bother me, but I have a suspicion that these are going to become a treasure on my shelf. The covers shown here are pretty true to form - intense blues, greens, and reds. The pages are a brighter white than the smaller book.
NOTE: What is really interesting, is that I took a picture of what I thought was the same passage - and there are differences in the passage. "Lunch" vs "Dinner", "Supper vs Dinner". "Lowlands vs Border". So apparently, it's more than a face uplift here - this is a full on edition difference. I don't even know which one is closer to the original, or if my version has a different editor altogether.
Pros:
- Whiter pages
- Larger font, but not too much larger.
- Easy to hold open
- Vibrant colors
Cons:
- Edition change? I'd like to know which was better.

Now Gabaldon returns to that extraordinary time and place in this vivid, powerful follow-up to Outlander.
For twenty years, Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to the mysteries of Scotland’s mist-shrouded Highlands.

Claire’s spellbinding journey continues through the intrigue-ridden French court and the menace of Jacobite plots, to the Highlands of Scotland, through war and death in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.

NOW THE STARZ ORIGINAL SERIES OUTLANDER
In this rich, vibrant tale, Diana Gabaldon continues the story of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser that began with the now-classic novel Outlander and continued in Dragonfly in Amber. Sweeping us from the battlefields of eighteenth-century Scotland to the exotic West Indies, Diana Gabaldon weaves magic once again in an exhilarating and utterly unforgettable novel.
VOYAGER
Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her . . . and her body still cries out for him in her dreams.
Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and the pain awaiting her . . . the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland . . . and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite—or forever doom—her timeless love.
Praise for Voyager
“ Voyager is, frankly, an amazing read. An unusual mix of romance, suspense and history. . . . If you can put this huge tome down before dawn, you’re made of sterner stuff than I am.” —Arizona Tribune
“Rousing . . . audacious . . . exciting . . . Gabaldon masterfully weaves . . . flashbacks . . . crossing time periods with abandon but never losing track of the story.” —Locus
“Unconventional . . . memorable storytelling.” —The Seattle Times

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The fifth book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series.
“A grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries].”—CNN
The year is 1771, and war is coming. Jamie Fraser’s wife tells him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy—a time-traveler’s certain knowledge.
Born in the year of Our Lord 1918, Claire Randall served England as a nurse on the battlefields of World War II, and in the aftermath of peace found fresh conflicts when she walked through a cleftstone on the Scottish Highlands and found herself an outlander, an English lady in a place where no lady should be, in a time—1743—when the only English in Scotland were the officers and men of King George’s army.
Now wife, mother, and surgeon, Claire is still an outlander, out of place, and out of time, but now, by choice, linked by love to her only anchor—Jamie Fraser. Her unique view of the future has brought him both danger and deliverance in the past; her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through the perilous years ahead—or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The sixth book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series.
“The large scope of the novel allows Gabaldon to do what she does best, paint in exquisite detail the lives of her characters.”—Booklist
The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest.
With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence—with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie’s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The seventh book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series.
“All you’ve come to expect from Gabaldon . . . adventure, history, romance, fantasy.”—The Arizona Republic
Jamie Fraser, former Jacobite and reluctant rebel, is already certain of three things about the American rebellion: The Americans will win, fighting on the side of victory is no guarantee of survival, and he’d rather die than have to face his illegitimate son—a young lieutenant in the British army—across the barrel of a gun.
Claire Randall knows that the Americans will win, too, but not what the ultimate price may be. That price won’t include Jamie’s life or his happiness, though—not if she has anything to say about it.
Meanwhile, in the relative safety of the twentieth century, Jamie and Claire’s daughter, Brianna, and her husband, Roger MacKenzie, have resettled in a historic Scottish home where, across a chasm of two centuries, the unfolding drama of Brianna’s parents’ story comes to life through Claire’s letters. The fragile pages reveal Claire’s love for battle-scarred Jamie Fraser and their flight from North Carolina to the high seas, where they encounter privateers and ocean battles—as Brianna and Roger search for clues not only to Claire’s fate but to their own. Because the future of the MacKenzie family in the Highlands is mysteriously, irrevocably, and intimately entwined with life and death in war-torn colonial America.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Diana Gabaldon returns with the “vast and sweeping” (The Washington Post) new novel in the epic Outlander series.
War leaves nobody alone. Neither the past, the present, nor the future offers true safety, and the only refuge is what you can protect: your family, your friends, your home.
Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1746, and it took them twenty years of loss and heartbreak to find each other again. Now it’s 1779, and Claire and Jamie are finally reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband, Roger, and their children, and are rebuilding their home on Fraser’s Ridge—a fortress that may shelter them against the winds of war as well as weather.
But tensions in the Colonies are great: Battles rage from New York to Georgia and, even in the mountains of the backcountry, feelings run hot enough to boil Hell’s teakettle. Jamie knows that loyalties among his tenants are split and it won’t be long before the war is on his doorstep.
Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the twentieth century might catch up to them. Sometimes they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s—among them disease, starvation, and an impending war—was indeed the safer choice for their family.
Not so far away, young William Ransom is coming to terms with the mysteries of his identity, his future, and the family he’s never known. His erstwhile father, Lord John Grey, has reconciliations to make and dangers to meet on his son’s behalf and on his own, and far to the north, Young Ian Murray fights his own battle between past and future, and the two women he’s loved.
Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie sharpens his sword, while Claire whets her surgeon’s blade: It is a time for steel.

The pages are a brighter white than the smaller book.Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2019

I love the series!! The books arrived quickly, but when I got to book #6 (A Breath of Snow and Ashes) there were pages missing at the back of the book. I went to my local bookstore and found that there were actually 29 pages missing from my book. Just FYI to check immediately when your set arrives for any issues. I didn't catch it until I had read the first 5 books.

The books are not too small, they are almost 8x5. And the covers are beautiful! I'm looking forward to reading them all!

Loved the TV series so I bought all of the books. This is the first book that I have to wear reading glasses to see. I'm not going to be able to read the books. SIGH.. You also have to break the spine of the book to be able to see all of the words on the page.
On the other hand the books read just like the series, although the brogue is difficult to read at times.

This set of books are a great read. The TV show on the Starz network follows the book very closely, with more involved in the books. The saga of Jamie and Claire is not only spellbinding, but the books have a lot of historical and geographical facts that are very educating. If you're a fan of the TV show I would recommend this set. Once I started reading I had a hard time putting the books down.

Ordered the 8 hardcover books and it came with 9. The outlandish companion was included. Glad I decided to wait to order the rest of the series!

I really wanted to get one where the font size was large enough to read without eyes train, the paper quality was reasonable and the book opened far enough to read the portions near the spine side of the page. This does it. They are 5"W by almost 8"H and 1.5" to 2" thick. Needless to say, they ALL have a lot of pages. That might overwhelm some, but it gives the author the opportunity to fully develop a myriad of characters and events, following historical fiction with a bit of druid magic tossed in and a lot of swashbuckling highlander adventures.... It is hard to describe genre and Diana Gabaldon does a beautiful job weaving all in and out of the series.
I also have to give Diana Gabaldon credit for stressing many of the positive attributes of people in loving, trusting relationships. Beautifully done. She is probably one of the most compelling writers I have ever read.
That said, I ordered these eagerly awaiting a Saturday delivery only to discover that Amazon sends them USPS, and USPS doesn't deliver to my apartment complex on Saturdays... Monday was a holiday. So, 3 days of weekend reading, down the drain. I am not enamored with the Post Office. You would think they would work harder to keep their market share of package and letter movement in this era of growing competitors.

If you’ve enjoyed the tv series you’ll enjoy the books even more.

Having enjoyed the series on Amazon Prime I thought the books would help while away the time during “Lockdown”. When they arrived I was somewhat daunted by their size (2 of them are over 1400 pages long) & wondered if I’d ever get through them all in my lifetime, let alone lockdown ! But I’m already well into book number 5. Anyone who’s enjoyed the tv series will definitely enjoy the books even more. The tv series is good ,but there is so much more in the books.

Am thoroughly loving these books

Firstly, I admire Amazon's ambition of asking me to review an 8-book collection less than a month after receiving it (and these books are all circa 1000 pages long)! I have, however tried my hardest and am half way through book four... which I think is a bit of a testimony to how much I am enjoying them
If you have enjoyed watching the Outlander TV series then, of course, you will enjoy these books. There are moments where the books diverge from the TV series - or should I say the other way round since the books came first, and the characters have been used in different ways when they've adapted the books for TV. That doesn't make either the less enjoyable, just different in their own right.
What you can't get away from the incredible history and the incredible love story that pours our of these books which draws you in. I've held my breath and sobbed in many places (much to my 8-year old's amusement).
Coming back to the delivery, the box arrived somewhat battered but, fortunately, the books inside were unharmed.

Kindle edition is NOT the actual 8 BIG Outlander books!
Reviewed in Canada on November 4, 2021
Purchase itself was totally fine - however I bought it based on the title description "Outlander 8-Book Bundle", and as a huge fan I made the assumption that meant I was buying EIGHT Outlander books - what I got instead were SEVEN Outlander books - and a Lord John novella. Not the 8th Outlander Book. Why wouldn't kindle make the 8 book bundle actually include all 8 of the main Outlander series???? Perhaps they're waiting for the 9th book. I don't know. But I finished book 7 and was mightily annoyed to find out book 8 was not included in the 8 book bundle. 99% my fault for not reading the description of what I was buying. But I think the title is incredibly misleading for Outlander fans because the 8-book Outlander series definitely wouldn't be including a Lord John novella in that. I think Kindle should change this, so you actually get 8 Outlander BOOKS, not 7 books and a short novella.

Watch the series on Amazon prime now wanted to read the book. Great that they sell in bulk rather than having to buy book individually. Still getting through them but enjoying.

Really enjoying the books but have taken one star off for the quality of the books themselves. The covers are not durable and I’ve had a page fall out of one book, just not sturdy enough for books of this size.
