From the bestselling author of These Tangled Vines comes a gripping novel about one woman’s search for answers when her husband vanishes in the night.
Olivia Hamilton is married to the love of her life, Dean, a charismatic pilot who flies private jets for the rich and famous. But when he vanishes over the Bermuda Triangle, Olivia’s idyllic existence unravels. After years of waiting, Olivia must eventually let go of the fragile hope that her beloved husband might still be alive.
Melanie Brown is a particle physicist who spends late nights studying the Bermuda Triangle. But her research interests falter when her mother dies in a tragic accident. Struggling to reboot her life and career, Melanie begins a forbidden love affair with her therapist.
When a shocking discovery shows Olivia’s and Melanie’s paths are intertwined, it casts Dean’s disappearance in a new light. The two women’s strange connection threatens to unlock secrets that will change everything Olivia thought she knew about her marriage, her husband, and most importantly, herself.
Full of spellbinding twists and turns, Beyond the Moonlit Sea is a vivid, emotional novel about the stirring power of love lost and found—and the incredible strength of one woman who fights for happiness in the wake of tragedy.

"If there was an empty hole inside of him—which I believed there was because of his work pressures and the emotional wounds from his childhood—I wanted to fill it up with happiness in every possible way. Wasn’t that the true meaning of love? Wanting a sense of well-being for the person you cared about? And if a bomb was dropped into that person’s life, wasn’t it necessary to do everything in your power to defuse that bomb? Or throw yourself on top of it if you had to? That was my version of love. And what I felt for Dean was pure and deep and everlasting. I believed it with every inch of my soul, and I decided, that night in the restaurant, that I would do everything in my power to ensure his happiness and to keep him in my life forever." ~Olivia
Although I liked the story enough to finish it, and appreciated everything about it, it was missing the element of escapism that I was looking for. Tension was my primary emotion for much of the tale, and I already have enough of that already.
Overall, it was well delivered. I just didn't place the order for extra angst.
My first read by MacLean. Not my usual genre but I will be reading more.
But nothing compares to this story. I have no words except that if you want a book that is part mystery and romance with all the emotions that makes you feel when reading a great book, give this one a try.
The writing is borderline bad. The characters and their storylines are neither deep nor well-developed and come across as nothing more than paper-thin caricatures. It all feels very superficial and contrived, as if no real thought or research went into this project. Basically a weak, non-romance beach read.
Also - and this is a pet peeve - the author is trying to write an American story but is clearly NOT American. Wrong verbiage, slang, language patterns, etc. It made everything feel off. American authors/actors take a beating for this so it should be noted that it’s incredibly jarring when the reverse happens.
Additionally, the plot twists are transparent and the mc’s are vaguely annoying and not really sympathetic. i.e. Spoiled rich girl who “cuts off” her family for a guy she’s met like 3x (plot twist- she has a bunch of money in a secret account from her mommy so…not actually cut off at all)? That’s a hard pass. Male therapist who has an affair with an emotionally damaged patient and then blames her for ruining his life? HARDER pass.
Takeaway? Lots of people can love a story but that doesn’t make it great or even good.
Enough surprises to keep me reading. Satisfying story right to the end.
