NOT the full season!!!!! It’s only the “best of.”
Verified purchase
Would’ve given zero stars but it wouldn’t let me submit it that way. This is NOT the “Complete” season as advertised!!! It’s one disc that has a couple episodes and is the “best of”....what a pain in the rear after making sure it was in fact supposed to be the full season and having to return it. Plus, the customer service lady that I spoke to on the phone clearly didn’t understand what I was saying and spoke very broken English 😬

Excellent DVD set of the first season with optional audio commentary.
Verified purchase
First things first, as long as you order and receive the 2019 release with the 25th Anniversary Title, you are getting the entire season with no missing lines. Every negative review I have read on here, especially the ones about missing lines, are referring to DVD sets released prior to 2019. The video quality is good, albeit in 480i (4:3) which is really the only negative I can give this set. The sound is really good, which really shines when you hear the music. All in all, if you want an inexpensive, on-demand version of Friends to watch whenever you want, wherever you are, this is the DVD set you want. No internet required!

Friends - season 1 - DVD - review - Greater than the Sum of its Parts
Verified purchase
Pilot Episode was one of the best ever in TV comedy series history. Provided insight into the 6 primary characters backgrounds. Foreshadowed character relationships for future seasons.
.
.
Friends is the perfect example of the well known phrase "greater than the sum of its parts". 6 main characters were *not* funny individually. But the *combined ensemble* resulted in a comedy cultural phenomenon.
.
.
Here is my ranking of Friends characters, from best to worst. Sorry, not sorry.
.
Joey - funniest character. literally played multiple characters in the series.
.
Monica - character was lovable despite being a control freak and neat freak. good physical comedy.
.
Rachel - wanted what she could not have. when she got it, no longer wanted it. (Ross, of course). spoiled and selfish character.
.
Ross - very insecure character. worst decision maker with respect to relationships.
.
Chandler - character's shtick was terribly annoying and extremely over used. Actor's personal problems unfortunately had negative effects on the character and show.
.
Phoebe - character was too quirky and not funny. writers literally had to shoehorn this character into scenes in countless episodes.
.
.
Friends somehow lasted 10 seasons. TV comedy series should have ended after season 5.
.
(1) Obvious lack of *diversity* on Friends. TV comedy series took place in New York City! By comparison, 1970s TV comedy series Barney Miller took place in NYC and had a diverse cast.
.
.
(2) Friends peaked in season 5. Writers, Directors, and Producers ran out of good ideas for new episodes.
.
Example 1 : character Janice appeared in all 10 seasons. OMG! Enough is enough.
Example 2 : mega star Bruce Willis portrayed an insecure father who literally cried in season 6.
Example 3 : Monica and Chandler romance was *not* originally planned. Audience reaction and fan feedback helped create "Mon-dler".
.
.
(3) Most supporting characters were written out of the show too quickly.
.
Example : character Elizabeth Stevens was Ross Geller's student and girlfriend in season 6. Cute couple, despite the characters' age difference. Writers should have continued the Elizabeth and Ross story arc into season 7.

not sure if I'll invest in the entire run of this series - but - the first season certainly is worth the fun factor ...

Was waiting at my local Subaru dealership to get my car washed (free "life time" car washes -> Grapevine Five Star Subaru) & Friends just happen to pop-up on TBS - watched it for a bit & realized just how funny it was - it certainly had it's chortle moments - sprung for the first season just for the giggle factor - not sure if I'll invest in the entire run of this series - but - the first season certainly is worth the fun factor ...

Never expected it Not to work.

I purchased numerous DVDs for my other home out of state where I do not have internet. I purchased a DVD player from Amazon. Actually 2 DVD players. One for each house. I never opened any up until I was out of state. This one did not work on any DVD player. Including a desktop computer. Unfortunately I returned home 4/1 and my window of return ended 3/29. I would appreciate if I received a refund or replacement DVD (if it will work). Thank you.

Five * For Friends!

Some sitcoms just pass the test of time and Friends is one of those. No matter how many times you've seen the episodes, it's great to curl up and relive the stories. The box set makes it a nice gift for a Friends fan or yourself.

Like most people, I rely on honest product reviews to make purchase decisions. Because the experience of others has been so helpful to me, I try to provide honest, helpful reviews to assist other shoppers in selecting the right products for them. I hope my review has been helpful to you!

For fans who have seen the episodes a million times, do not buy these!!

They shrunk the runtime of the episodes, speeding up the intro (like it’s on fast forward) and cut out pieces of the episodes themselves. Beyond me what the rhyme or reason was. Asking for a refund.
